About our Journey

Amy and Jon travel the world…

…in 2015-2016, we downsized our material life and took a year to gather experiences. After we said good-bye to our beloved boxer-german shepard mix, Boomer, we decided the time was right to head out. We sold the house and most of our “stuff”- except what would fit in a 5×10 storage unit- and also left the daily grind of work life to travel to new places and see new things.

We are pretty much the average, everyday, married couple. Amy loves being active outside (especially in the mountains or on the lake), will seek out a good micro-brew whenever possible, and thinks Scrabble is the best game ever (with Cribbage a recent close second). Jon’s heart has always been in the mountains. He also loves skiing, taking photos of nature, wildlife and any aircraft that flies overhead, is passionate about wildland firefighting…and will begrudgingly play Scrabble with Amy on occasion.

We both grew up in Minnesota, but fell in love with our adopted home in Colorado after relocating in 2003. We have been married since 2004, lived in the suburbs of Denver and enjoyed happy weekend days exploring the beauty of Colorado. And we both hadn’t seen enough of the world and other beautiful places.

After a scary roll-over accident in 2012 and getting inspired by others who took time off to travel, we decided that was what we wanted to do. It took time (and focused dedication) to save up and plan to not work for a year and travel.

In September 2015, we set out with a one-way ticket to Iceland. We ended up with many stops around the world, as well as some time living from the back our car in the United States.

We posted our thoughts as we traveled and loved the comments and greetings from family and friends along the way.  See our posts by location above or start from our first post and work your way through (navigation after each post).

In September 2016, we settled back in Colorado. Good fortune brought us a lovely little place to live (a cottage that we love in the foothills) and new jobs within weeks of moving back. Readjusting to the daily commute to work and same setting everyday was challenging at first.

Travel is now intertwined with our spirits and souls. We hope we can plan for some extended travel again soon. For now, we will post occasionally with new adventures, pictures, and stories. Thanks for joining us on the journey.

    1. Thanks Terri! We actually thought the mashed fish was pretty tasty. We didn’t get to see much of Iceland, but it was nice to check it out briefly.
