Amy: Spring is such a great time for a getaway, especially when celebrating my birthday in early April. After finding an affordable flight, we decided Austin would be a perfect place for a long weekend.
Our first day greeted us with hot, sunny, humid weather. After the snowy Colorado winter, the heat was very welcomed. We spent the day exploring the city, putting in lots of miles by checking out the parks, botanical garden, and tons of turtles. We tracked down some tasty BBQ and brews, followed by some pool time and an evening watching the largest urban bat colony take to flight at dusk.

On my birthday, the clouds brought a lovely cover for a morning walk to the Texas Capital and a scroll down to Rainey Street for some craft beers and lunch. The evening brought clear skies and we headed to the Hulu Hut on Lake Austin. The highlight of our day was meeting up with our incredible friends, Karli and Mark, who joined us for the rest of the weekend.

We wrapped up my birthday celebration with a return to the bat bridge and a walk down to Amy’s Ice Cream (a perfect birthday treat!).

The rain rolled in throughout the rest of the weekend, but that didn’t stop our fun with Karli and Mark. We checked out Mark’s favorite food truck, puckered up while tasting some sour beers at the Blue Owl Brewery, and played some lively games of cards. We braved the storm and walked around downtown and made our way to the remarkable Austin Central Library.

After some breakfast the next morning and a drive around the city, we all headed to the airport and said farewell…for now. We can’t wait for our next adventure together.
